Import/Export

Purpose: Bring economic value to impoverished Guatemalan Christian communities by importing and marketing handicrafts for them in North America .

Through market research and a market driven approach, many of the existing skills of the Mayans such as pottery, wood carving, Jade carving, weaving, and textiles can be directed into marketable products. Low wage rates, relatively short shipping distances, and soon the creation of a free trade zone for Central America all enable these products to be marketed competitively.

The average family income in rural Guatemala is less the $150.00 per month or about $1 per day per family member. Actually, jobs that pay the family wage earners $1.50 to $2.00 per day are aggressively sought after by non-educated and non-skilled laborers.

Providing markets for products produced through the skills of these peasants can dramatically increase their income and standard of living while at the same time enhancing their dignity and self-worth. We greatly covet such economic enhancements for our Christian brothers and sisters in Central America .
