Construction Contracting
Purpose: To
provide an opportunity for vocational students of the building trades
to gain practical "hands on" experience under a controlled environment
while at the same time providing cost effective construction to Christian
mission organizations.
In
our construction contracting firm, students are able to learn all aspects
of for profit contracting. Specific skills and preferences are honed
for electrical, plumbing, steel work, masonry, and tile setting. At
the same time business aspects of planning, purchasing, and record keeping
are taught.
Since
many mission projects include assistance from foreign work teams, cross
cultural exchange broadens the perspective of the students and enhances
their level of confidence.
Very
few missionaries are gifted in the skills of construction. Yet most
every mission at some time or another encounters a construction project.
The results are often not those desired in workmanship or the ability
to get the project completed in a timely fashion. Missions contracting
relieves the missionaries of an added work load while at the same time
training young Guatemalans in the trades and paying for their housing
and training expenses.
