Agua Viva School

Purpose: To elevate the children to a higher level in their society through a superb education system.

Children are admitted into Agua Viva at all times of the year, most of them with an education level well below their ages. It is therefore imperative that the home have its own elementary school where children can be placed at a proper starting point regardless of age. Special attention and encouragement is also essential to enable children to catch up as quickly and as much as possible. Special Education needs (a concept foreign to Guatemala) are very common among children brought to Agua Viva.

Agua Viva presently operates an elementary school through 6th grade for its own children and the children of its employees. Junior high and senior high children attend one of the Christian schools in Chimaltenango.

When Agua Viva moved to its current site from Guatemala City, a school had not yet been constructed at the new site. In fact, classes are still being held in makeshift classrooms in each dormitory. The atmosphere is certainly not optimal for learning, and a classroom building is badly needed. Plans have been drawn and certified for a new two store education facility. The first wing of the complex will cost $90,000 and will adequately meet current needs. Construction is set to begin when the building fund reaches $30,000. The present balance is near $25,000.
